COLDWATER — The Marshall High School girls golf team continued to show its depth and improvement Friday, September 18, at the Coldwater Cardinal Invitational, highlighted by a top-10 finish from Anna Thompson and a career-best round from senior Ava Metheny. Marshall finished in 7th place out of 20 teams with its season low team score as well. Thompson led the Redhawks with a 93, earning a top-10 individual finish in a competitive field of over 90 players. That is Thompson’s 5th top ten on the season. Metheny followed with a career-low 102, matching Junior Sophia Hankey’s 102. Sophie Fondren rounded out Marshall’s team scoring with a solid 105. The Redhawks entered the tournament shorthanded, as senior Regan Bailey was a late scratch due to a minor injury. Despite the absence of one of their regular scorers, Marshall received strong contributions throughout its lineup. Metheny’s career-low round was another encouraging sign for the Redhawks, while Thompson continued to provide consistent leadership at the top of the lineup. Hankey and Fondren also turned in solid performances to help Marshall put together a competitive team effort. The Redhawks’ performance at Coldwater represents another step forward for a team that has continued to make progress throughout the season. With several players producing strong individual rounds, Marshall is building momentum as the season moves toward its final competitions. The ladies next competition brings the I8 Conference Championship next Wednesday and the RedHawk Invitational next Friday. Go RedHawks!
