Track Teams Compete at Union City and Grand Rapids

Jack Bidwell Sets School Record in 1600 Meter Run
The majority of the MHS track teams traveled to the Union City Invitational on Friday night to compete against nine other schools, while four runners traveled to the 32 team Grand Rapids Elite Challenge on Saturday morning.
Placing for Marshall's boys at Union City were Akin Olapade in the 100 and discus, Ty Winchell in the 800 and 1600, Calvin Bagale in the 3200, Cam Weers in the 300 hurdles, and Olapade, Zach Hudson, Carter Pratt and Abelino Lerma in the 400 and 800 relays. Placing for the girls were Emily Dingee in the 400 and long jump, Savannah Richmond in the 1600 and 3200, Maura Young in the 100 and 300 hurdles, Jantonia Grey in the discus, Georgie Schmidt in the high jump, and Dingee, Nola Cottrell, Mariana Bethel and Ki'ara Taylor Smith in the 400 relay.
On Saturday, despite having only four boys competing, Marshall placed 6th out of 32 schools. Jack Bidwell led the way breaking his own school record in the 1600 meter run, finishing in 4:11.25. Jack also ran a 1:57.34 to win the 800 meter run. Following Jack across the line in the 1600 was sophomore Abe McHugh who took fourth in a personal record (PR) of 4:25.42. Claiming fourth in the 800 was Reece Davis in a new PR of 1:59.29. McHugh also PRed in the 3200, placing fourth in 9:47.90. Rounding out Marshall's scoring was sophomore Zach Hudson who took sixth in the 300 hurdles in a new PR of 42.64.
