JV Softball snags their first win
Posted on 05/02/2025
Marshall JV Softball captured their first win against Harper Creek on 5/1 with a score of 16-5.  All their hard work, focus and dedication paid off as they were locked in at the plate and solid on defense all game long.

The Redhawks jumped into the lead in the top of the second when Kelen Childs drew a walk, scoring one run, and a passed ball scored two runs.  In the top of the third they scored an exciting inside the park home run by Bella Andrade.  The game was put away in the 6th inning.  The Redhawks scored 6 runs in the top of the inning and held the Beavers scoreless in the bottom of the inning.  Maria Andalon and Kelen Childs tallied 7 stolen bases between them.  Bella Andrade, Milla Hall and Lyla Mack each had 2 hits in the game with one of Hall's being a double.  Milla Hall and Izzy Miller each had 3 RBIs.

Milla Hall only gave up 4 hits and struck out 8 batters.  Sophie Hankey, Cora Lazarus and Kelen Childs were STUDS in the outfield.  Cora Lazarus had great field awareness, always backing up first base at the perfect moment. She was clutch in stopping overthrows, keeping runners from taking extra bases and shutting down any chance of advancing on errors. Sophie Hankey set the tone for the bottom of the 6th with a clutch running grab in center field, firing up the team and shutting down any momentum from the other side.  Kelen Childs came up big in left field with several key plays, the highlight being a diving stop on a hard-hit grounder. She quickly got it to her cut-off, Maria Andalon, who fired home to catcher Bella Andrade for a huge out at the plate.  Our infield—Lyla Mack, Maria Andalon, Kennedy Hughes, Izzy Miller and Bella Andrade—had their pitcher's back all game long. The team played with confidence knowing that if the ball was put in play, these girls would dig deep and make something happen. Kennedy Hughes and Maria Andalon came up huge with inning-ending outs at first, stranding multiple runners. Lyla Mack also made several plays, including a clutch foul pop-up catch. The game wrapped up in the bottom of the 6th when Bella Andrade fired to Lyla Mack at third, who applied the tag on a stealing runner to seal the win.
